This 1920s cocoon cape was made from a lush black velvet material with stunning gold silk lining that offers a decadent contrast. An iconic look of the era, this cape envelopes you with a rounded body and ruched 'hobble' style skirting that is out of this world. Ruched detail at the top of the shoulders gives excellent texture, with a sweet off-center bow at the nape of the neck that gives a subtle yet ever-so-lovely bit of adornment. This cape falls to the ankle with an asymmetrical hem. This cape pairs well with just about anything making it very versatile. No closures; would look excellent with an antique clasp. A highly collectible piece.

Label: None
Era: 1920s
Material: Velvet, silk
Color: Black, gold
Best fits modern size: XS, S, M (please see measurements)

Condition: Exceptionally good condition considering age; was very lovingly stored. A few light scratches on the velvet and one area where the plush is a bit flattened. Silk lining is overall excellent. There is some stress along the folds around the neck that you may want to address at some point. Cape can be safely worn and presents beautifully.

Measurements (taken flat, relaxed, and doubled):

Shoulder: 18" (closed, measured straight across)
Width: 48" (closed)
Length: 42” - 51" (asymmetrical)

Fit Notes: Slim at the shoulder, cocoon shape wraps around the body and elongates the figure. Ruched drop waist falls close to the knee. Hem nearly reaches the floor. Would recommend investing in a clasp (these are vastly available from antique and vintage accessory dealers) to keep the cape closed at the neck. Model in video is 5'7 for length reference.

A Note on Buying Vintage

This is an antique or early vintage garment made from delicate materials such as silk, fine cotton, lace, or early synthetics. These textiles may display signs consistent with age, which includes:

• natural fiber fatigue
• gentle thinning at stress points
• subtle irregularities inherent to early manufacturing
• age-related softness or patina

These qualities are authentic to historic garments and are considered part of their character, not defects, unless otherwise stated.

Notable flaws, such as excessive wear, stains, holes, or rips will always be photographed and disclosed in the condition notes.
