Vintage 1920's - 1930's Maxi Dress | Semi-Sheer Tan Silk with Deep Chocolate Brown Silk Velvet | Size XS, S

Vintage 1920s to early 1930s maxi dress made from a rich deep chocolate brown silk velvet with a semi sheer tan silk bodice. Simply gorgeous, with the iconic loose drape that elongates the figure to create a slim and chic silhouette. The sleeveless bodice has a long boat neck with a slightly lower V cut back. Gathered detail at the sides of the dropped waist offer lovely folds and a subtle shape. Floor length, with godets at the lower sides that offer a fluted mermaid-esque hemline. Side button snap closure with a single eye-hook to secure the waist. Simple yet incredibly elegant!

CONDITION

Very good: Structurally sound, with no crispness to the silk. This dress was obviously homemade; small imperfections that aren't obvious, with the exception of uneven straps at the top of the shoulders. Top of shoulders were reinforced and patched with silk on the undersides (last photo shows both the front and back). Likely had a collar or shrug that originally went with it as there are green oxidation marks on the tops of the shoulders from where there used to be metal snaps.Some tiny holes in the silk that don't distract or seem to affect the integrity of the fabric. Silk bodice was soaked in a gentle detergent, but one area of underarm staining, and a few spots of discoloration of the silk remain (as pictured).
