This 1940's Japanese robe is an exquisite reminder of just how intricate kimono art can be. Made light and airy pongee silk with a very sheer white silk lining which drapes beautifully. Hand sewn and painted, with a bright red main body color, and remarkable floral print in shades of pink, blue, green and gold, with glimpses of the natural unpainted pongee color. Loosely fit with wide sleeves falling below the elbow and a hemline that falls slightly below the knee. With low side slits and a gorgeous hemline pattern that pops with deep shades of black, blue and green. Absolutely fabulous when worn open or cinched shut with the accompanying sash tie, and is an excellent choice for lovers of the classic 1920's style. A very rare and treasured style!
CONDITION - Excellent: Does not appear to have ever been worn and is in exquisite, very sturdy condition. There are 2 very faint brownish age spots on the lower left side of the inner lining which do not show through and are hard to see without very close inspection.
